Bedell Bahia Dreadnought

Over 50 years ago, several Brazilian rosewood logs were shipped from northeastern Brazil to a small company just outside of Madrid, Spain, which initially produced church ornaments. These logs were stored in a warehouse and were later cut into tonewood sets for guitars as the business focus changed. The company, now known as Madinter, has become one of the world's leading tone wood suppliers for exclusive guitar builders.

Over the course of more than 5 decades, the tone wood sets aged and cured in the ideal Spanish climate. The sap crystalized, the stress in the wood relaxed, and the cellulose matured between the annual growth fibers. This natural aging process turned the tone wood into exceptional music wood. In a similar way to the extraordinary sound of pre-war guitars, the Brazilian rosewood from Madinter has naturally matured.

In 2013, Bedell Guitars acquired Madinter's entire collection of Brazilian rosewood, which is all legally documented. This wood was harvested before Brazil prohibited the export of Brazilian rosewood logs in the late 1960s, before the initial CITES convention of 1972, and long before Brazilian rosewood was declared an endangered species by CITES in 1992. This treasured Brazilian rosewood is considered the most exceptional music wood created by Mother Nature. It responds powerfully to lower energy bass frequencies and beautifully to higher energy treble notes. The instruments crafted with this aged, cured Brazilian rosewood exude an incredible timbre, energy, and aliveness. Brazilian rosewood is regarded as the finest guitar body music wood, and the Brazilian rosewood used by Bedell Guitars is considered the most amazing collection in the world.

Nevertheless, Bedell Guitars does not take the Brazilian rosewood for granted. In the new Bedell Bahia dreadnought, orchestra, and parlor guitars launched, the Brazilian rosewood is paired with Adirondack spruce.
