First Guitar: Acoustic or Electric

There has been a long standing thought among teachers that you should always start on an acoustic guitar before moving to electric.  Frankly, I think this is complete poppycock.  If a kid is asking to play guitar, they have a vision in their head about what that is going to look like.  Some kids want to play acoustic and be a YouTube star, other kids want to stand on stage and be a rockstar.  Whatever the case, let them follow their dream and get them something that fits the fantasy.  The most important thing is to get something that will inspire them to keep fingers on strings on a daily basis.
