Paul Reed Smith, in very close collaboration with John Mayer, took the Silver Sky and reimagined it with materials and finishes to bring it to market in a very appealing price point. In typical PRS fashion though, they weren't content with just making a "cheaper" guitar. They worked tirelessly with the materials available at the SE factory and basically reverse-engineered the Silver Sky sound and playability. The result is an amazing guitar at an even more amazing price.
